Managing a rack involves regularly visiting the store where the rack is placed and restocking the books. Racks and books are paid for by Sastra Dana or by the book-rack manager.
There are two kinds of book-racks: those that offer free books; and those that offer books for a donation. Racks that ask for a donation have a donation box fixed onto the rack. Racks differ in size and shape. One thing they all have in common: they hold only small paper-back books.
Dear reader, here is a service opportunity for you, become a book-rack manager! Let us know if you are interested and we’ll arrange to place a rack in some of the stores in your locality. You need to be ready to once a week, or as often as needed, go to the store(s) and restock the books. Racks that have a donation box would need to have donations taken out of the box on a regular basis, the more often the better. What an easy way to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books and thus get his and Krishna’s mercy!

I am very interested in your program. I have to talk to some prabhus here in New Dwaraka. I don’t have a car and I work full time, however, there are so many places especially in Westwood near UCLA that I can have a few book racks. If I can arrange for a temple vehicle (or friend) and someone to take me around I will go to 5 restaurants/or public places each weekend & commit myself to these 5 places. I will keep you posted. I will also discuss this with the temple president Svavasa prabhu. This would be my preaching service. 310-839-7640 Hare Krishna
Sounds great! Shyama Priya Mataji, Sacitanoy’s wife, also showed interest in the program. You could perhaps join hands.
That is great to know. Shyama Priya is a neighbor of mine and I know who she is. I will talk to her over the weekend or after Rathayatra to make some arrangements. She and her husband are great book distributors.
P.S. It is nice to multi-task. For instance having a full time job is sometimes necessary. However, it is easy to still be Krishna Conscious and dovetail one’s activities. I chant my rounds going to work and going home from work. I chant extra rounds each day. I meet people on the bus stop who are vegetarian or who are interested in Krishna. Sometimes I give away my prasadam or some maha to people I meet. I always carry Govinda’s Restaurant business cards in my purse too. I feel it is an austerity to work in the material world, and endeavor to always remember Krsna, yet it is possible. I try to put little things out there in front of me and reminders of remembering Krsna. Even at work there is a big blue wall and I envision the altar of Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarkadish there. I visualize the deities and when I pass by I think of them all the time. When I first came for my job interview before meeting my boss I had a big realization and realized Lord Krishna there in front of me and knew that I can remember Krishna anywhere and can take the temple with me wherever I go. So even though I wish I can do temple service — since I have to work — in my mind I try to serve the Lord and offer service in my heart. I reflect cooking, sewing, making garlands, offering obeisances and prayers to the Lord. That is internal. Externally I may be filing, typing or doing some other work. Krishna and Srimate Radharani know our sincere desires and our prayers. They see our endeavors. Hare Krishna.
