Alpha Pharmacy

The following is compiled of excerpts from an E-mail message we received from a family that is very enthusiastic about book distribution.

Hare Krishna!

We placed the third book rack on Wednesday, March 21st, at Alpha Pharmacy which is owned by Dinesh Patel, a pharmacist who is Pradeep Prabhu’s friend. (Pradeep is Jyoti’s husband.) The pharmacy is located on South Beach Blvd. in Anaheim, right next to a medical centre. It is very busy.

Mr. Patel was happy to see the book racks. He was familiar with the books and happy to see them also. He had picked some up from the Radha Raman temple in Placentia. He allowed us to place the book rack right next to the cash register.

We placed 220 books. Mr. Patel called out to his employees and gave them a couple of copies of ‘Viaje Facil A Otros Planetas’ the Spanish version of The Easy Journey to Other Planets. He told them, “Here, take these books and read them. They are in Spanish. You will like them”.

Since it was very busy at the store we were not able to take many pictures. We have one of the store owner, Mr. Dinesh Patel, standing by the book rack with a book in his hand and one of the outside of the store.

We thank you Prabhus for giving us this service opportunity. We also thank Advaita Chandra Prabhu & Sita Thakurani Mataji for their encouragement in placing the book racks.

King Rantideva

The exalted character of King Rantideva. Read the rest of the story in the 21st chapter of the 9th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam.

Once, after King Rantideva spent forty-eight days fasting, not even drinking water, excellent food made with ghee was brought to him, but when he was about to eat it a brahmana guest appeared. Rantideva therefore did not eat the food but instead he immediately offered a portion of it to the brahmana. When the brahmana left and Rantideva was just about to eat the remnants of the food, a sudra appeared. Rantideva therefore divided the remnants between the sudra and himself. Again, when he was just about to eat the remnants of the food, another guest appeared. Rantideva therefore gave the rest of the food to the new guest. Thereafter, only the drinking water remained, and there was only enough to satisfy one person, but when the king was just about to drink it, a candala appeared and said, ‘O king, although I am lowborn, kindly give me some drinking water.’ Aggrieved at hearing the pitiable words of the poor, fatigued candala, Maharaja Rantideva spoke the following nectarean words: “I do not pray to the Supreme Personality of Godhead for the eight perfections of mystic yoga, nor for salvation from repeated birth and death. I want only to stay among all the living entities and suffer all distresses on their behalf so that they may be freed from suffering.”
